Remote hugging via cyberpajamas?
Singapore scientists looking for ways to transmit the sense of touch over the Internet have devised a vibration jacket for chickens and are thinking about electronic children's pajamas for cyberspace hugs. A wireless jacket for chickens or other pets can be controlled with a computer and gives the animal the feeling of being touched by its owner, according to Nanyang Technological University researchers who were quoted in Monday's edition of The Straits Times. The next step would be to use the same concept to transmit hugs over the Internet, they said.

Police raids seize 150,000 illegal DVDs in T.O.
Four police agencies seized millions of dollars worth of illegally produced DVDs in Toronto on Saturday. RCMP and Canada Customs officers joined officers of the Toronto and York region police forces to raid three shopping malls in the GTA. More info at source.

Windows OneCare Beta Goes Live
Microsoft is waving goodbye to Symantec and McAfee it seems. On Tuesday, the company opened the doors to its Windows OneCare Live beta, a PC protection and maintenance service that offers an antivirus and firewall, along with tune-up and backup functionality.
Any Windows XP SP2 user can now register to download the latest beta release.

Google Adds Virus Scanning to Gmail
Google on Wednesday silently added a new feature to its Gmail service: virus scanning. The company will now check all incoming and outgoing e-mail attachments to keep users' inboxes safe. By scanning outbound attachments, Google can also keep viruses from proliferating by way of Gmail.
